No pigs this year

I am very disappointed. After we added up the minimum costs for for getting started with two pigs we decided that it would be best to wait until next year. Right now, with the enormous house improvement costs we have going on, adding another expense doesn’t seem logical.

Our estimates for getting into raising our own pork are:
2 pigs $150
6 cattle panels $150
Rain shelter $100
Zip ties $15
Feeder $100
Waterer $50
Feed ~$600 for 4 months of feed (worst case)
This doesn’t include butchering costs. If we grew one pig and sold the other than that would be offset. Once we get set up for the pigs though, then our operating costs would just be for the pigs, feed, and butchering costs. Which will make it a lot more reasonable.
