I sometimes eat the berries, although they’re a little on the mealy side.
It’s been so long since I tasted one that I can’t remember the texture.
Envy! Upstate NY here until we move back to Colorado this summer. Yesterday was the first HINT of Spring here 🙂 It’s coming, just not fast enough…. What is an Oregon Grape anyway? An ornamental?
Yeah, we don’t have much to complain about here in the northwest. It rains a lot, but it’s not miserably cold. The grass was green and growing over a month ago.
Oregon Grape is a native shrub and the state flower of Oregon. You find them growing wild in the forests. It produces small blue fruit in late fall which are edible but very bitter. This one came with the property, and we were careful not to kill it when we were putting in the barn lot fence.
We just bought 4 grape plants on the weekend!..not Oregon grapes. Looks SOOO nice there..
We have one grape that’s trying to grow out of the pot and into the ground. We’d like to plant a bunch of them down a fence line eventually. It’s very green here. Unfortunately, that means we are way behind in mowing already.
