We have had deer hanging around the last few days. They came up close to eat apples from the tree. Mostly we haven’t seen them even though I know that they are around. In the back field you can see deer trails and a couple of places where they bed down for the night. Looks like big crop circles.

Don’t you just want to hug him? That is before he rips you to ribbons. Jasper looks very evil in this picture. Maybe it’s because I am taking his picture and he only likes Lee. Hmm, maybe he is trying to hypnotize Lee with his eyes.

Edgar got some spots he wouldn’t stop licking. After going to the vet for some medications he got put in an old paint shirt and Lee’s underpants.

Lee and I worked on cleaning out the trash shed. I am really quite disgusted every time I work on it. I think that it is worst in some ways then all the other trash that we had to dig through around the property. The reason being that it is full of recyclables and outright garbage (like fast food wrappers etc.). The other stuff that we had cleaned up while it was still trash (rotting clothes and whatnot) it wasn’t usually household nasty stuff. I really don’t understand why the former tenants didn’t take this stuff to the dump. It makes me mad and grosses me out that I am having to dig through their household waste.

I had to laugh though as I found carpet under all the trash on the dirt floor. Lee say’s maybe their plan was to vacuum it every ten years but then they couldn’t because of all the garbage they piled on top of it.

I found two dead things. One which we think was another dead cat so that would bring the count up to three. The other was just a pile of jumbled bones. I don’t know my skeletons so my guess is maybe a dead rat or squirrel?

The fields by our house have lots of burrs in them. When we were still living in the rental house I would just deal with it and comb out hundreds of burrs when he came home. Now it’s a different story. We don’t have hot water so I can’t give him a bath without giving him hypothermia. We don’t have good lighting so combing him out isn’t so easy. So after Edgar came in from playing I knew I was going to have to take action.

Granted I don’t think he wanted me to do anything about it as he looks pretty happy with himself.

Edgar got a shave down this rainy day out on the front porch. Poor little doggy.

Lee had a surprise guest show up in the bathroom with him. He was intrigued with how well the moth blended into the cabinet. And to think that all it probably wanted was a little privacy and Lee to hand up a tiny piece of toilet paper.

Guess what we found in the walls? It’s not a mouse this time. One…oh wait…two…nope, not two…three, yes three bees nests. Sunday morning when Lee was working on taking down board paneling in the living room we found a surprise. Thankfully there was nothing alive and stirring or I would have been running and screaming as fast as I could. Notice in the below picture at the bottom of the wall board is a huge hole. Lee has been complaining about the over zealous service installers because of the holes in the walls of the house are every where. Go ahead and click on the rest of the pictures to get a closer view.

Today we found death everywhere. And while surrounded with death somehow I am not at all sad about it. The first example I have to show you is Jim holding a fine rat specimen which he found while cleaning outside. It was quite petrified.

The next example is inside the house. Lee was unscrewing a light switch and as he did mouse droppings rained down. As soon as he got it off he started laughing and motioned me over. There was an hazel nut inside the switch. Notice the mouse poop stuck against the wall in the first picture. But the real surprise was when he took off the dry wall. There is a dead mouse on the opposite side with an hazel nut in sight.

But then the kicker was when he finished pulling back all the dry wall and we found a whole family of dead mice at the bottom of the same wall. Something tells me that the walls in the house must have been noisy with all the nuts dropping and mice running around.

When we bought the house we knew that it came with feral cats. Our neighbor feeds them but they are all very spooky. Right now we have 6 feral cats all unfixed. One black mother cat with four black adolescent offspring and one gray stripped male cat. Our neighbor calls that one Smokey.

The mother is pregnant again we think. Once we borrow a live animal trap we are going to catch them and bring them in to get fixed. We don’t mind feeding them as they will keep the vermin down but we don’t want 50 feral cats running around the property.
